    Odgers Berndtson’s global Oil & Gas practice is led from Aberdeen in the UK.   In the last year we completed searches in 25 countries. We have a UK team of 12 in Aberdeen and London and an international team of 35 people covering every major Oil & Gas region worldwide giving us one of the largest specialist teams in Executive Search.  It ensures that the global talent pool in the Oil & Gas sector is effectively mapped   and   that clients receive a truly international, best in class shortlist.

     

    Our team also form part of our global Maritime & Shipping Practice which is led from London and builds upon the firm’s longstanding success in the sector over the last decade.  Assignments are conducted across the full range of disciplines and have spanned senior executive and non-executive roles for the entire value chain.  We also handle key senior operational roles.

    About the role of a Researcher

     

    Research is fundamental to what we do. Our clients rely on our ability to bring knowledge of their company and markets as well as real insights into the individuals we identify and put forward.  Research is the backbone to each assignment and is central to ensuring that we consistently deliver fresh, creative and forward thinking results that deliver real value to the client and to the final outcome.

     

    The role of Researcher is to work as part of the team to identify high-quality and relevant individuals for our clients by understanding the clients’ business needs.  This includes thinking creatively and expansively about where individuals could be found, often across sectors and geographies, identifying and approaching people and assessing their interest and fit for the role. Proactively and continually building up our knowledge base is a key element of this role.

     

    As a Researcher you will set an example to others and act as a role model to more junior individuals within the team.

     

    Key Job Responsibilities

     

    This is a Researcher role supporting the Fee Earners in the Practice. This role will suit a flexible, hardworking and dedicated individual who demonstrates enthusiasm and a natural intellectual curiosity.  We need a bright team player who will thoroughly enjoy a structured role with plenty of scope for creativity.   You must be able to prioritise, be proactive,  think  ahead,  anticipate  problems  and  be  hungry  for  results  in  a  high quality, client focused business. The Researcher will be capable of the following competencies and responsibilities:

    • To support the Partner and Consultants by providing quality research
    • To  continuously  expand the knowledge pool of likely future candidates and emerging companies
    • Play a key role in enabling the practice to provide a timely, professional and valued service to our clients
    • Build good links and networks with colleagues throughout the company
    • To be fully proficient in the use of all Business Information resources relevant to the practice
    • Supporting the Head of Practice and “fee earners” with pitch preparation in the form of presentations and business intelligence
    • Produce  high-quality, insightful and  robust written work, in forms of longlist reports and, if you progress as expected, in due course references and candidate reports that is accurate, thoughtful, timely and exceed clients expectations
    • Provide research support for a portfolio of live mandates and  other business development projects and help out other team colleagues where necessary
    • Establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with clients, candidates and colleagues
    • Managing  expectations with consultants  and  successfully balancing competing priorities

    About you

    The ideal candidate will be an experienced Researcher or Recruiter, preferably with Oil & Gas and/or Maritime

    & Shipping specific sector knowledge and understanding gained from a relevant background, possible in- house or in a recruitment service supplier.

    Successful candidates will be highly articulate, analytical and professional and at the same time team-oriented with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

     

    Key skills and experience should include a combination of:

    • Ability and credibility to build relationships over the telephone and in person
    • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
    • Excellent research skills and outstanding communication skills both verbally and in writing
    • Systems  literate and  fastidious  in use of technology to accurately store information
    • Rigorous, methodical approach and excellent attention to detail
    • Leading  by  example and upholding  the culture,  philosophy, professionalism, ethics and quality of our brand
    • High levels of tenacity, creativity and lateral thinking to ensure optimum success with assignments
    • Coping well with unforeseen change and being able to flex accordingly with the assignment needs
    • Demonstrating a willingness to learn from others and develop skills through hard work and tenacity
    • Prioritising the interest of the client and the firm, acting as ambassador
    • Actively assist colleagues and willingly sharing the workload - being proactive in taking on work in order to support practice activities
    • A high level of intellect and naturally inquisitive nature
