    The Education and Universities Practice, led by Alex Acland, specialise in the appointment of world-class leaders, board members and non-executive directors within education institutions, children's services and the broader public and private educational services.

    An opportunity has arisen for an Associate to join the team. This is a key role in the practice and will be integral to its continued success.

    Associate

     

    As an Associate your role is to support the Partners and Head of Practice in the delivery of high-level search assignments thus enabling the continued growth of the business at the most senior echelons of industry.

    You will support the search process end-to-end, which will likely include; pitch preparation, candidate interviewing, extensive amounts of written work, and managing the candidate/client journey through to offer and beyond.  It is vital that you are committed to delivery of an outstanding candidate experience.  As part of the ongoing business development strategy, you will be available to support the Practice at frequent business development and pitch meetings around the country and play a key part in representing the Practice at networking events.

    Key Role Responsibilities

    The role will suit an individual looking for an opportunity to deliver marketing leading searches of the highest quality, operating at the most senior executive levels.  The successful individual will be someone with innate ambition who has a natural curiosity about people, the world and about business; a team player who will thoroughly enjoy a structured role with plenty of scope for creativity.

    You must be resilient to set-backs, able to prioritise, be proactive, think ahead, anticipate problems, and be hungry for results in a high quality, client focused business. The role will include but not be limited to:

    • Support with pitch preparation, business intelligence and attendance at business development and pitch meetings around the country.
    • Producing high-quality, insightful and robust written work, in forms of pitch documents, client reports, references and shortlisted candidate reports that are accurate, thoughtful and timely, exceeding client expectations.
    • Some delivery of research. This is essential to continue expansion of the future candidate pool, emerging organisations and future talent identification.
    • Candidate management through the journey of the search assignments, which includes;
      • Ability to be pre-emptive and sensitive to potential needs.
      • Influencing desired courses of action and outcomes when necessary.
      • Anticipating problems, negating potential negative scenarios, and delivering effective solutions.
    • Building strong links and networks with colleagues throughout the company.
    • Attending marketing and business development events and a variety of social networking engagements with senior UK business leaders
    • Working well under pressure.
    • Managing expectations with consultants and successfully balancing competing priorities.
    • Taking part in company-wide projects and incentives, business and CSR related

    About you

    Ideally you will have some experience in search or management consultancy. However, we are open to individuals looking to make a lateral move into search. 

    It is essential that you have gained post-graduate work experience in a client facing role, have a high level EQ and a genuine interest in business and the myriad of strands that impact C-level and Board level appointments.

    You will demonstrate the following qualities and experience:

    • Interpersonal skill and innate confidence to build relationships at all levels and to adapt self and style appropriately
    • Relentless curiosity about people and how the world and business works
    • Outstanding document preparation and writing skills
    • Systems literate and fastidious in their use of technology
    • Rigorous, methodical approach with the judgement to know when details matter and the ability to adapt quickly and prioritise
    • Ability to lead by example and uphold the culture, philosophy, professionalism, ethics and quality of the OB brand
    • High levels of tenacity, creativity and lateral thinking to ensure optimum success with assignments
    • Ability to cope well with unforeseen changes and to flex accordingly with business and assignment needs
    • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop skills through hard work, tenacity and an inner drive to succeed
    • Ability to prioritise the interest of the client and the firm at all times
    • Willingness to assist colleagues and share workloads - proactive in taking on work in order to support practice activities
    • Highly articulate, analytical and professional with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
